Helping Every Student Discover a Direction, Build a Profile and Find Their Path

At Birla Public School, Pilani, we believe that education is much more than preparing students for examinations. It is about helping them discover who they are, understand their potential and develop the confidence, skills and values needed to shape their future.
Our Career Counselling and Guidance Programme is an integral part of this larger vision. We believe that career planning should not begin only when a student has to choose a stream or apply to a university. It should evolve gradually through self-discovery, exposure, skill development, meaningful experiences and informed decision-making.
Our endeavor is simple: to help every student move from curiosity to clarity and from aspiration to action.

From Subjects to Careers: Understanding the Journey

Choosing a career is not a single decision. It is a journey of interconnected choices:
Subjects → Stream → Course → University → Skills & Experiences → Opportunities → Career
Our counselling programme helps students understand these connections. They learn how their interests and subject choices can influence future courses, how to explore universities and programmes, and how skills, experiences, achievements and exposure can strengthen their journey towards higher education and a career.

Career Readiness Begins Early

As a residential school, BPS offers students numerous opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. Everyday school life helps them develop independence, communication, collaboration, leadership, time management, decision-making, resilience and problem-solving skills.
We believe these competencies are an essential part of career readiness.
A student's future is shaped not only by marks and examination scores, but also by what they learn, what they experience, what they create, the responsibilities they take and the impact they make.
Our counselling programme therefore encourages students to build an authentic and well-rounded profile over time.

Understanding the Student First

Good career guidance begins with understanding the individual.
Students are encouraged to reflect on their interests, strengths, abilities, aspirations and areas of potential. Psychometric and aptitude-based assessments form an important part of this process.
The school uses TAMMANNA (Try and Measure Aptitude and Natural Abilities), an aptitude assessment developed by NCERT, to support students in understanding their aptitude and exploring possible academic and career pathways.
Individual counselling further helps students interpret such insights in the context of their own interests, academic choices and aspirations.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

At BPS, we recognise that some of the most valuable learning happens through experiences.
Our association with Round Square and AFS provides students with opportunities for international exposure, cultural exchange, collaboration, community engagement and leadership. These experiences encourage students to become more open-minded, confident and globally aware.
Participation in such programmes also contributes to the development of a meaningful student profile, giving young people opportunities to demonstrate initiative, leadership, adaptability, teamwork and a willingness to engage with diverse perspectives.

From Learning to Doing: Skill Development

The world of higher education and work increasingly values students who can apply knowledge, solve problems and work collaboratively.
The school's Skill Fest provides students with opportunities to explore practical skills, discover new interests and participate in hands-on learning. Such experiences encourage students to move beyond simply knowing something to actually doing something with it.
Whether through projects, competitions, workshops, leadership opportunities, community engagement or skill-based activities, students are encouraged to discover their strengths and develop capabilities that will remain valuable well beyond school.

Connecting Students with the World of Higher Education

We believe that informed choices are possible when students have access to authentic information and meaningful interactions.

Our Career Counselling Programme provides students with:
  • Career awareness and exploration across traditional, emerging and interdisciplinary careers
  • TAMMANNA and other aptitude-based approaches to support self-understanding and career exploration
  • Individual counselling based on students' interests, strengths and aspirations
  • Guidance for stream and subject selection
  • Information and guidance regarding entrance examinations
  • Support with university applications and scholarships
  • Exposure to Indian and international universities
  • A regular University Interaction Series with university representatives and admissions experts
  • An Annual Career & University Fair, bringing 50+ leading Indian and international universities and institutions to the school
  • Career talks, workshops and expert interactions offering students real-world perspectives
  • Guidance for students exploring international higher education opportunities
Preparing Students for Global Universities
The world of higher education is increasingly global, and our students are encouraged to look beyond geographical boundaries when exploring their possibilities.
As a SAT Centre, BPS provides students with access to the SAT within the school environment, supporting those who are considering universities and programmes where the examination is relevant.
For students aspiring to study in the United Kingdom, the school also provides UCAS guidance, helping them understand the UK university application process and approach their choices and applications with greater awareness and preparation.
Together with the opportunities provided through Round Square, AFS, university interactions and international exposure, these initiatives strengthen our students' readiness to engage with global higher education.

Building a Profile, Not Just a Resume
We encourage our students to understand that a strong profile is not created overnight and is not limited to a list of certificates.
It grows through curiosity, consistency, leadership, skills, participation, initiative, meaningful experiences and personal growth.
A student who participates in a Skill Fest, takes up a leadership responsibility, engages in an international exchange, works on a project, participates in a competition, interacts with a university representative or explores a new field is gradually discovering and building their own story.
Our role is to help students recognise the value of these experiences and connect them with their larger aspirations.

A Continuum of Guidance

At BPS, career counselling is not a one-time intervention before Class XI or XII. It is a continuum that grows with the student.
The questions students ask at different stages of school are different. In the early years, they may simply be discovering their interests. As they move into the middle and senior years, they begin exploring subjects, careers, courses, universities and opportunities in greater depth.
Our guidance evolves alongside them.
By the time students are ready to make important decisions about their subjects, courses and universities, our endeavour is that they have developed the self-awareness, skills, exposure and confidence to make those decisions thoughtfully.

From Possibility to Purpose

Ultimately, career counselling at Birla Public School, Pilani, is not about telling a student what they should become.
It is about helping them ask the right questions:
What am I good at?
What interests me?
What can I learn?
What opportunities are available?
What kind of person do I want to become?
And how can I build a pathway towards that future?

Through counselling, skill development, leadership, global exposure, university interactions and opportunities beyond the classroom, we strive to give every student the space and support to discover their own direction.

At Birla Public School, Pilani, we don't simply help students choose a course or a university. We help them understand themselves, build their profile, broaden their horizons and prepare for the journey ahead.
