Visit of team from Royal Society Of Chemistry, UK

On 01 Feb 2024, a team of people from the Royal Society of Chemistry, RSC UK visited the Birla Public School, Pilani. The team consisted of Prof. Gill Reid, President RSC and Professor of chemistry in University of Southampton, UK and Dr. Alejandra Palermo, Head of Global inclusions, RSC. The event had a very ardent participation from the students of Class IX to XII who gathered in the Vijay Hall of the school. The event was planned and nicely executed and the major architect for the event was Dr. Roopa Mitra, with an equally enthusiastic support from the Principal, Mr Kajal Marwaha, the Headmaster Mr. S. K.Baral the academic coordinators Mr. Manoranjan and Mr. Himanshu. Our esteemed guests were given a warm welcome by the Headmaster by presenting a bouquet and cards made by students. During the event, the attendees were introduced to the highly interesting emerging areas of academic research and development activities and global trends in Chemistry – a very timely appropriate topic in the context of sustainable development and the role of high school educational model to build a stronger and responsible next generations of our society. Amongst the visitors, Prof. Gill Reid, a pioneer Researcher and Chemistry Educationist, emphasized upon the firm educational structure as evident at BPS Pilani in attaining an overall development of the students. She also highlighted the necessity of building a stronger society based on the educational might and positive willingness. The program started with welcome address by Dr. Roopa Mitra introducing the visitors followed by two talks spanning through 25 minutes. Prof. Reid also mentioned the importance of Chemistry as a subject providing the backbone support to our quest for improved lifestyle, better healthcare and environmental remediation on a global scale. Dr. Alejandra Palermo talked about her life journey. She also mentioned about the activities and different programs of the Royal Society of Chemistry in building social awareness about the upcoming global requirements and grand challenges and how Chemistry can contribute to these goals. The students were appreciative of the enriching session which opened up visions of opting for career options in academics and industry taking Chemistry. The program concluded with a motivational speech by the Headmaster Mr. S. K. Baral followed by vote of thanks presented by Dr. Roopa Mitra.
